Join us as we kick-off NMEA’s new webinar series! In this month’s webinar David Christopher, Delaware Sea Grant Marine Education Specialist and NMEA Membership Chair, will be broadcasting from the research vessel the R/V Atlantis which will be off east coast conducting methane seep research. David will be sharing information on the research being conducted and what its like living onboard the ship. This webinar will be hosted Kasey Gaylord-Opalewski, Associate Director of Education Programs for Earth Echo International, Inc. and Co-Chair of the NMEA Student Engagement Committee.
David Christopher is the Marine Education Specialist for Delaware Sea Grant at the University of Delaware. David has B.A. in Biology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an M.Ed. from Goucher College and has over 20 years of experience in the marine education field. David is active in the Delaware Association for Environmental Education, the Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association, and National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) and formerly served as NMEA president from July 2021-July 2022. In 2024, NMEA honored David with the James Centorino award for outstanding work and leadership in marine education at the local, regional, and national level. Kasey Gaylord-Opalewski has been designing, developing and coordinating innovative digital programming for non-profit organizations since 2002. She has over 20 years of “on-air” experience as an educator and moderator for virtual interactive lessons. Over the years, Kasey has received innumerable accolades for her lively and engaging marine science and conservation presentations. She specializes in teen programs as well as public programming for adults, such as Science Cafes and professional development for educators and lifelong learners. Most recently, Kasey co-authored "Defining Interactive Virtual Learning in Museum Education: A Shared Perspective" (2019) in the Journal of Museum Education
