Education Research and Evaluation

The Education Research and Evaluation Committee strives to foster and share educational research and evaluations in ocean and aquatic topics to inform best practices in formal, informal and free choice learning. The Committee’s goal is improve the quality of educational research and the rigor of evaluations in ocean, aquatic, coastal and Great Lakes topics and to create a network of like-minded researchers and evaluators.

The Education Research and Evaluation Committee (EREC) holds virtual meetings quarterly to connect with other NMEA members who are interested in, or work on, education research and evaluation projects. This allows members to discuss projects, seek guidance in best practices, and share resources.

Committee activities have included:

  • Providing input on special projects relevant to the work of NMEA such as the 2018 Membership Demographics survey

  • Hosting workshops and presenting on education research and evaluation prior to and during the annual conference

  • Supporting efforts involving Current: The Journal of Marine Education including publishing articles demonstrating work in education research and evaluation of water education programs and activities

  • Connecting other members to useful professional development opportunities, resources, and conferences on education research and evaluation
