Speakers are the heart of NMEA Conference programming. This year's sessions will fall into a variety of streams and formats:

Session Streams

Effective Evaluation: Design, data collection, analysis, application 

Connecting Communities through Conservation: Grassroots efforts, citizen science, and cultural connections that support conservation
Supporting our Schools: Formal and Informal support for curriculum, professional learning, and NGSS Implementation
Research Revelations: Scientists and researchers share recent findings and ideas for authentic field experiences to connect broader audiences to the scientific community 
Angling for New Audiences: Assessing needs, gaining insights on reaching underrepresented audiences and youth, using technology to advance ocean literacy

2018 Session Formats

General: One presenter speaking on one topic, audience Q&A optional. Sessions are 45 or 80 minutes; the 80-minute session is recommended for hands-on activities. 
Panel: One person convenes a panel of experts on one topic, time is allowed for audience Q&A
Roundtable: Informal, interactive small-group discussions curated by facilitator
Lightning Talks: Multiple speakers each limited to five-minute presentations, grouped by topic. Talks are 45-minute sessions only.  

Important Dates

October 15, 2017 - Call for presentation and poster proposals opens
January 15, 2018 - Call for presentation and poster proposals closes
March 23, 2018 - Tentative date to notify accepted presentations and posters

Requirements of Session and Poster Presenters 

All presenters must:

  • Register for the conference.
  •  Advise if their presentation includes a product or products for sale. 
  • Supply their own computer, laptop, or tablet. Apple users must also provide the appropriate VGA adapter for an LCD projector.
  • Identify audio-visual and Internet availability needs.
  • Provide their own hard copies of materials to be distributed if not using an electronic means of distribution. Digital and electronic copies are preferred.
  • Provide any other materials necessary to make their presentation.

All presentations must fit either a 45-minute or 80-minute time-frame—80 minute sessions may only be used for panel discussions or workshops using a hands-on activity.
